When I say I love you, I mean, I am patient with you. I walk with you through the weird and the painful. I overlook your crazy, your madness, your mean. I breathe in and out and wait for you to be, and do better.
When I say I love you, I mean, I am considerate towards you. I want to help you. I speak blessings over you. I notice when you feel sad and speak life over you. I see your faults, as clear as day and share ways they can be turned into talents. It is caring for you, nurturing the giftings I see. Encouraging you to be your best self.
When I say I love you, I mean, I do not resent your success. I celebrate them. I am not suspicious of you, I do not guard or hide anything from you. I am thrilled that you are excelling, growing and thriving. I am always happy for you.
When I say I love you, I mean, I do not exaggerate about myself or speak with excessive pride about my accomplishments. I do not make you feel bad, small or rub your face in anything wonderful that is going on with me. I do hope I can share them with you and you will be happy for me but I will not look down on you or inflate myself in any regard.
When I say I love you, I mean, I will not dismiss or insult you. I will always speak to you with respect. My words will be gentle, like a caress on your cheeks. My thoughts shared aloud will be comforting and true, they will uphold you and encourage you. I will think before I speak. I will consider you as I share my thoughts.
When I say I love you, I mean, I will try to not be irritated by you. When you do irritate or annoy me, I will take it to Jesus and not take it out on you. I will take every hurtful word or action to God and and I will lay it at His feet. I will continue to speak to you with grace and understanding. I will always approach you from a place of trying – trying to understand, not accuse. I will continue to forgive and forget even when it is difficult because it is a command, you see.
When I say I love you, I mean, I am ecstatic when justice wins. When the truth wins, I celebrate this with you! I am excited that you are set free, from every prejudice and bias. From every injustice and questionable decision or action that negatively affects you.
When I say I love you, I mean, I will not give up on you so easily, I will always have faith that God has you and that He will cause everything to work together for your good. I will always hope that you will do better and be better. I always hope for the best in all things concerning you.
When I say I love you, I mean, I will stand with you. Cry with you, hold your hand and pray with you. I will pray for you, sing with you, sing for you. I will shop with you, shop for you, eat with you, cook for you. I will laugh with you, hug you, cover you, wait with you, sit with you, listen to you, I will be right there with you, discovering and living this life, right alongside you. Through the good and the not so good. I will be right there.
When I say I love you, I mean, I love you. It may sometimes look and feel strange but it does not change the reality of this fact.
I love you.
