This whole post is based on Luke 6:28 which says, “Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you“. The verses before and after go into more depth on the how and gives real-time examples including the very popular, turn the other cheek instruction.
Somewhere in the back of my mind, this whole part of the Bible, is the part I call, how to be a fool because every instruction seems like a step by step instruction on how to be a doormat – yet! Not only is it in red (Jesus said it) but it is an instruction on how to be a godly person. So, I have to at least try no matter how I feel about it.
I am unsure whether I am just ultra-sensitive because, in the last few weeks, a few people in particular just decided to mess with me (I am still unsure whether it is on purpose or not).
My feelings got hurt and I will be honest, the temptation to get my own back was raging. I could easily respond in a way that would hurt them too but what would that have done? It would have simply increased the number of hurt people – who does that help?
I am writing this partly relieved and learning and partly hurt yet healing. I am relieved and learning because I realise that life is not about me. It is about glorifying and exemplifying God in our daily lives so the pressure is off. What do I have to prove?
I am partly hurt yet healing and growing because I am human. I will be hurt, I am wired that way yet I am growing. I am not where I was, yesterday. There has been movement – thank God.
…and in moving and growing, we cannot remain where we are. We have to keep it moving. We have to move past the hurt, move past hate, unforgiveness, grudges, malice and strife. We have to move and leave these things behind. This is the only way we can leave these behind us, enough to be able to pray for those who hurt us.
I will keep it simple…let us pray.
Heavenly Father, thank You for forgiving me when I hurt You. Teach me to remember that when I am hurt by others. Help me move past and let go of all the hurt so I can pray for all those who have hurt me. I pray for them, right now, in Jesus name. I ask that you bless them and heal me from every hurt and every pain. I also ask that you heal them also because people who are hurting, hurt people. In Jesus name, Amen
Love and Blessings,
